I’ve never been an early bird. I love being under the covers, while its so cold in the morning. I hit the alarm clock, and then oversleep.
I came across this article posted on Boing Boing today. Here’s one guy’s strategy on how to become an early riser…
The solution was to go to bed when I’m sleepy (and only when I’m sleepy) and get up with an alarm clock at a fixed time (7 days per week). So I always get up at the same time (in my case 5am), but I go to bed at different times every night.
I go to bed when I’m too sleepy to stay up. My sleepiness test is that if I couldn’t read a book for more than a page or two without drifting off, I’m ready for bed. Most of the time when I go to bed, I’m asleep within three minutes. I lie down, get comfortable, and immediately I’m drifting off. Sometimes I go to bed at 9:30pm; other times I stay up until midnight. Most of the time I go to bed between 10-11pm. If I’m not sleepy, I stay up until I can’t keep my eyes open any longer. Reading is an excellent activity to do during this time, since it becomes obvious when I’m too sleepy to read.
When my alarm goes off every morning, I turn it off, stretch for a couple seconds, and sit up.
I’m thinking I might test this out. I know I could do so much more in the morning, if I woke up earlier and wasn’t all groggy.
Or maybe I should get a clocky.

Or maybe I should get the Sleep Watch. Its a wristwatch you wear to bed. It senses which level of sleep you’re in. It will wake you up when you’re in your light sleep. It picks the optimal time to wake you up. I don’t know if this is worth $150, but I would love to wake up and not feel groggy.
Speaking of sleep, have you heard Sleepytime Gorilla Museum?

On Boing Boing yesterday…
Walking through Tokyo’s Ginza district one Friday evening last month I saw an extraordinary sight that will soon become an ordinary one: A businessman was talking into his keitai (the Japanese word for cell phone), holding it out in front of him rather than to his ear. Suddenly, smiling, he raised the device to his lips and kissed the screen.
It wasn’t hard to piece together an explanation — the man was making a video call to his lover. His lover had asked for a screen kiss, or perhaps they’d synchronized one. It was my first glimpse of this behavior, and it happened in Tokyo, but I knew it wouldn’t be my last. Soon enough we will see this scene repeated in New York, London, Paris, Berlin and San Francisco.

This week Apple introduced their Video iPod, but I could care less about watching a movie on a teeny tiny screen. You want to talk about technology? This is really impressive (in a fem-bot sorta way) and totally bizarre.
Computer chips that store music could soon be built into a woman’s breast implants.
One boob could hold an MP3 player and the other the person’s whole music collection.
BT futurology, who have developed the idea, say it could be available within 15 years.
BT Laboratories’ analyst Ian Pearson said flexible plastic electronics would sit inside the breast. A signal would be relayed to headphones, while the device would be controlled by Bluetooth using a panel on the wrist.
According to The Sun he said: “It is now very hard for me to thing of breast implants as just decorative. If a woman has something implanted permanently, it might as well do something useful.”

This gives a whole new meaning to making beautiful music together.

Just one more reason why our next car is gonna be a hybrid.
Here’s an excerpt of what Boing Boing posted today…
The Houston Chronicle’s Rita blog includes a post that points out one benefit of hybrid cars.
As vehicles ran out of gas during the Houston exodus (aka biggest traffic jam ever), one Chronicle employee who drove a Prius completed the 30 hour, 170 mile trek on three-quarters a tank of gas.
Other happy hybrid owners who didn’t have to stop for gas or turn off their A/C weigh in: “My folks drove to Austin from League City in their lexus hybrid and 21 hours of driving later still had 1/8 tank of gas left - plus they had my 87yr old grandfather with them and ran the air conditioner all day unlike most people who ran out of gas. 3 cheers for the hybrid!”
