Last weekend Jason and I saw the movie Cloverfield. I thought it was TERRIFYING and very very good. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone that doesn’t like the shaking of handheld cameras (think Blair Witch Project).
The beginning scene is Rob’s farewell party, which had some great indie music playing in the background. You can listen to the entire party mix here.

I read this on Gawker last week, and I could hardly believe it.
Sometimes, the gods are tired of whispering that you should get the hell out of New York, and they raise their voices a bit — not once, but twice. Turns out that Kathleen Caronna, whose apartment bedroom was destroyed by the impact of Cory Lidle’s plane, was also the same woman nearly killed by a rampaging six-story Cat in the Hat balloon during the 1997 Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. (Not to be confused with the rampaging M&M balloon during the 2005 parade.) Caronna was in a coma for a month, though she eventually recovered and won an undisclosed but no doubt handsome settlement from Macy’s. In a stroke of luck — or at least, less bad luck — Caronna wasn’t home during the plane crash, though she was en route there. Perhaps it’s time for a nice home in the country, with no tall buildings, aircraft, or parades.

For those of you that own Radiohead’sPablo Honey, tell me if you think that some of CYHSY’s songs sound an awful lot like the song “Stop Whispering”. My friend Mark pointed that out to me.
The PLUG Awards return February 2, 2006 to the Webster’s Hall in New York City. For those of you unfamiliar PLUG is collection of music lovers from all walks of life - writers, Dj’s, indie retailers, artist, filmmakers, and of course the fans dedicated to give merit where it’s due. Some of the acts scheduled to perform are The Nationals, Celebration and two-time nominee Chad VanGaalen.
In the year 2001 PLUG posted its first online ballot. They waited uncertain that anyone would respond, within weeks thousands replied. Labels began to join in the support by sending their fans links to the ballot. Although they suffered a brief hiatus they’re back in 2006 to acknowledge relevance and revolution rather than dollar signs.
If you’re thinking this is as pretentious and as near sighted as your local music store clerk in desperate need of an enema just log onto the site. The categories include everything from Metal Album of The Year to College/Non-Comm. Radio Station of The Year. They’ve left nothing out.

Where were you on the night of December 16th, around 1am? While I was in my bed sleeping like a log, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were performing “In This Home on Ice” on Conan O’Brien. It was a pretty mellow performance, with Alec’s vocals sounding especially Southparkesque.
