Sigur Ros is screening its full-length DVD documentary “Heima” on YouTube’s homepage, starting Friday. This is the first time a band screened an entire DVD on the website. The documentary consists of shows the band played in Iceland throughout 2007. Sigur Ros being Sigur Ros, the band picked some unusual venues, including fish factories, community halls and caves. Check it out.
Almost 5 years ago Quinton, Maureen, and I were in a club in Reykjavik and they started playing ‘No Diggity’. We cracked up because it seemed like Europeans dance different than Americans. Americans shake their butts more. Well… all American except me (I have no rhythm).
The Blackstreet version is damn good. But the Klaxons did them right and did a great cover here. The Klaxons also do a fantastic cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘My Love’ here.
Sigur Ros were interviewed on NPR’s Bryant Park Project last week, in what just might be the most hilariously awkward, cringe-inducing interview ever. One bad question after another.
“Did you start off with more traditional lyrics and work towards the gibberish?”
Here’s the interview. I’m surprised the interviewer didn’t get punched in the face.
Heima (At home) is a documentary and double DVD set about Sigur Rós’ tour around Iceland in the summer of 2006. After touring all around the world, they missed being home. I think all Icelanders are in love with the breathtaking, unreal landscape of their country. The documentary also includes footage of an acoustic concert played for family and friends at Gamla Borg, a coffee shop in the small town Borg.
Here’s the trailer…
The first DVD will contain the documentary, while the second DVD will feature full length versions of the songs. The DVD will be released on November 20th.
Heima is being screened all over the world right now, check here for dates and locations.
I am continually amazed at how creative Bjork is. Its kinda cool that instead of making a video for her single “Innocence”, she held a contest and let her fans make the video. She narrowed the choices down to 10, and this one is her final choice. Created by Fred&Annabelle, Bjork thought that it came closest to capturing the emotion of the song.
What do you think? My husband things this sounds an awful lot like a Nine Inch Nails song.
This closeup photo of a rainbow was taken at Skógar in Iceland. It hardly seems real.
As if Iceland’s plethora of natural wonders, wasn’t appealing enough. Every year they host the Iceland Airwaves music festival. It always falls on the third weekend of October. This year its being held from October 17th through October 21st. This year the lineup includes: !!! (chk chk chk), Annuals, Bloc Party, Bonde do Role, Deerhoof, Of Montreal, GusGus, Leave, and múm (to name a few).
I went to Iceland four years ago. Its the most beautiful place I have ever been.
as reported on nme.com today, the band will release a double compliation album on november the 5th - called “hvarf-heim.
the first part, hvarf, will have studio versions of unreleased songs, ’salka’, ‘hljómalind’, ‘à gær’
and ‘von’ - all four live favourites from over the years. the second disc is called “heim and will have acoustic studio versions of ’samskeyti’, ’starálfur’, ‘vaka’, ‘ágætis byrjun’, ‘Heysátan’ and ‘von’. more information as we get it.
They will also be releasing a video of a concert shot last summer in Iceland. Here’s a trailer for the film.
Bjork will be returning to America this fall for a few dates. I heard a recent interview where she said that for Volta she plans to tour one month on, one month off. I bet she’ll be back again to the U.S. to do a couple more dates. She’s Bjork, she can do whatever her little pixie heart desires.
Confirmed Tour Dates:
September 08…Toronto, ON:V Festival
September 11…Detroit, MI: Fox Theatre
September 14…Austin, TX : Austin City Limits Music Festival
September 17…Atlanta, GA: Fox Theatre
September 21…Montreal, BC :Jacques Cartier Pier
September 24…New York, NY :Madison Square Garden
Tonight Bjork is performing at the United Palace in NYC. NPR is going to be streaming that concert live here and you will be able to come back and listen to it after, as well.
Bjork performed on SNL this last Saturday. This will probably be taken down very soon. Bjork sounds really good, but her backup singers outfits look like squashed grapes. Check it out, the sooner the better…
