Enjoy…. Its very very good…
The Blogotheque crew recorded St. Vincent performing “Marry Me” at the Hot Freaks! party in Austin a few months back. This is a great recording.

Beijing (China) - China is known for creating pirated versions of DVDs and even video games, but now it is also the home of a cheap version of an entire gaming console.
James Wong takes the credit for inventing the strikingly similar-looking Wii clone. In addition to making the console look very realistic, Wong has created a “Vii” remote that also mimics its Wii counterpart.
In addition, the Vii comes with “Vii Sports” as well as Vii channels similar to the ones offered on the Wii. It also comes with a knock-off of Cooking Mama, and another bowling game.
The Chinese rip-off first showed up earlier this year but has gained more attention as the holiday season approaches, and Nintendo still faces production problems with the Wii.
The Vii is currently being sold at an online Chinese retailer for 986 yuan ($125).

Hole in the Wall is a Japanese game show. The idea is very simple, a wall comes moving towards you very quickly, the contestant has to contort his body to the shape of the cutout in the wall, if he fails…he gets pushed into a pool of water.

This classic sneaker legend - better known as “Chucks” - was first produced in 1917. Since 1923 it is named after the basketball star Chuck Taylor. It is very popular among musicians and show biz as well. There is no shoe that with more style and liberty of action.

Melodic. Hypnotic. Class rock? At the Bordello in LA in last, indefinable seemed to be the word of the day for Sabrosa Purr. At times, the trio even crossed into the realm of experimental garage band–that is, if said garage band could actually play their instruments, and if they were so in sync they seem to share the same DNA. In any case, I was impressed with what I saw and heard. At one point, my husband leaned over and whispered “I think these guys may actually make it.” I agree. Fancy adjectives aside, I must use the old cliche…don’t hate me…wait for it…THEY ROCKED.
Sabrosa Purr will be throwing a release party for their new album on November 7th at the Roxy in LA.

Pasadena has seen a lot of changes in the last few years. Old Town was once a seedy (ok, dodgy) place to be. But in the last ten years or so, Pasadena has been transformed into a commercial mecca–much to the delight of some, and the chagrin of others. Though I tend to lean towards the latter point of view, there is still a thriving arts community in Pasadena. And so the city attempts to redeem itself from its capitalist sins with ARTNIGHT. Various museums, galleries, and cultural centers keep their doors open into the wee hours, hosting special events and art showings. The best part? The entire night is FREE (and who doesn’t love free stuff?). Shuttles circle the city, transporting art lovers between venues, while some of the local restaurants offer special deals to patrons.
The highlight of the evening for me was the Castle Green–a historical hotel turned apartment building. The Castle opened its beautifully preserved lobby to the public and hosted an art show. Many of the featured artists were one-time residents of the Castle. And if you happened to bring your sketchbook, there were models dressed in turn of the century boudoir costumes available for posing.
So, even though at first sight Pasadena may seem like nothing more than an outdoor mall, it’s nights like these that make me think that this city is not only worth saving, but it’s worked out it’s own redeption.
So you missed ARTNIGHT? Never fear–Catch it next time Friday, March 14th. You can find more about ARTNIGHT here.

Oppenheimer is Shaun Robinson and Rocky O’Reilly. Oppenheimer hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Oppenheimer is, well, fantastic. At my friend Sara’s suggestion, we went to the Silverlake Lounge to see them perform. Having never heard of the band, I was a bit skeptical, especially when the word “electronic” was used to describe them. You know how it goes with electronica–when it’s good, it’s great and when it’s bad, it’s horrible. But I must say, they blew my proverbial socks off. Their sound consists of guitar, drums, and keyboards layered over electronic melodies. The result is a perfect balance of danceable pop music and good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll. I scanned the crowd at one point and I do believe every single toe was a-tappin’.
You can check out tour dates and listen to their music at www.myspace.com/oppenheimer. But, I do have to say, the recorded versions don’t hold a candle to their live performance.
