I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve had She & Himin heavy rotation lately. I love the combination of indie hottie Zooey Deschanel’s voice mixed with indie folkie M. Ward’s guitar playing. Its a nice, fresh throwback to Dusty Springfield, Nancy Sinatra, and maybe even a little Linda Ronstadt.
They performed on NPR’s World Cafe’s Lillywhite Session on Wednesday. Listen here.
They’ve been making the rounds lately on the late night circuit :
On Conan with Yo La Tengo - “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here”
On Craig Ferguson - “Change is Hard”
Zooey looks a little stiff, but I bet with time she’ll get comfortable. She’s adorable. Can’t wait to see them live.
Sigur Ros has put up their entire new album for streaming here. The album is entitled Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (in English: “With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly”).
Their new album will be available for purchase on June 23rd, but you can pre-order it here.
Check out “Ara Batur,” which was “recorded live in one take with the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy’s choir, a total of 90 people playing at the same time.”
I’ll admit that I really dug the Postal Service album, but truth be told Ben Gibbard killed emo with all his pretentiousness. Don’t want to waste your money on an album that’s not going to be any good anyways. Three better choices…
Ours is back with their third full-length album after 6 years. This album is beautiful and dark. They’ve picked up right where they left off. All hail the dark Jeff Buckley!
Spritualized - Songs in A&E
This is Pierce’s first record in over 5 years. The delay partially due to the fact that he caught double pneumonia and nearly died. I really thought that maybe Spiritualized had peaked, but this is their best album in years. The album is entitled Songs in A&E (in England, the ER is called the Accident & Emergency ward - get it).
I know what you’re thinking. Do we really need another band with wolf or tron in the name? But forget all about that, this band is great. This is Kenny Choi’s (frontman of Daphne loves Derby) pet project. His voice is beautiful and peaceful. His songwriting talents are better tapped in his solo efforts. Embrace the acoustic/indie/folk goodness.
Just wanted to say sorry if anyone has been trying to comment on the blog this week. We’ve been having some server issues, but it looks like we have them all squared away now.
On Saturday night I was sitting at home watching TV with my husband, when I realized that Porthishead was playing Coachella at that very moment. We were able to watch the live stream through AT&T Blue Room which was amazingly beautiful and frustrating. Portishead has not performed in the U.S. in over a decade, and they gave the performance of a lifetime. I am kicking myself for not being there.
