I went to Felt Club last December and found lots of good stuff. Felt Club tried to be a monthly event, and they’ve recently changed it to twice a year. If you miss this one, the next one won’t be until December.

It’s on like Donkey Kong.

I think this is so awesome. Apparently there has been a recent trend of knitters getting together and knitting things around public property. There’s a group called Masquerade (who are out of Stockholm, Sweden) and another one called Knitta, Please (from Houston, TX).
What Knitta does, in their own words…
A tag crew of knitters, bombing the inner city with vibrant, stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles on easy nights to public monuments and utility poles on more ambitious outings.

First, I’m going to learn how to knit. Then, we need to start a San Diego chapter of Knitta. Who’s with me?

Awhile back, I found this website called Post Secret. Its where people mail postcards to an address and they write their secret on the postcard, and the guy that runs the website scans the postcard in. For some people its the only way that they can get this secret off their chest. Some of the postcards are sweet, some are perverse.
But I laughed out loud when I read this one, because I have this same problem with my mother-in-law, my mom, and every adult woman that’s over 50 that I come into contact with…

Anyways, Post Secret has started to lose its lustre to me. Too many weirdos with disturbing secrets. But I like the concept of people contributing through the mail. Today I found this website called Mail Me Art. You can mail these guys an envelope or package with artwork, and once a month they’ll pick a couple of winners (it must have travelled through the mail and it must look amazing) and you get a cool prize.
Here are a few submissions…
I know that many of Thisisthelast’s readers are art school dropouts, so why not submit something?

I went to the Felt Club, two weekends ago. Its a monthly indie arts and crafts fair, where local craftsters sell their goods. I was overwhelmed by the volume of such interesting things they had. I was so happy that there were so many people that felt as stoked about the Felt Club as I did.
A lot of the items looks familiar, because I had seen them on Etsy and Cut and Paste before. Here are a couple of the Felt Club crafters’ websites…
aguiniga design, Boy Girl Party, Poketo, Chebang!, Catia Chien, and here’s all of the other FC vendors.

I have a confession to make. I like toys. I only want to have kids, so that I can buy better toys. I’ve recently started collecting Uglydolls, Dunnies, Cactus Friends, and Momiji Dolls.

I really want the vinyl Uglydoll “Ice Bat”, he’s so ugly he’s cute. Last time I checked eBay he was selling for $200! These toys retail for $25. I emailed the Uglydoll website, and they said I could try to buy one from their distributor. I called him, but I haven’t heard back from him yet.

There’s this other artist named Yoshitomo Nara. I’m in love with his “Little Wanderer”. She sells for about $100.

My old boss from Music Trader collects too. He’s goes to the release parties. I think he’s made himself broke with his collecting. He’s all into it. That flyer that I posted yesterday was for an Uglydoll convention. It was an art show including Uglydoll-inspired paintings, Uglydoll giclee prints, handmade, one-of-a-kind Uglydolls, exclusive figures, and even a costume contest.
This is my confession…I’m a sucker for Asian pop culture. This will be an expensive habit.

I just came across this on Neatorama…
The Warholizer is a “Flickr toy that will take your photo and turn it into a collection of filtered silkscreen-like images in tribute to the style of pop artist Andy Warhol.

I came across this on Boing Boing. I need this!!!

TurnYourHead is a service that makes custom-lathed dowels that contain your profile, like an MC Escher litho come to life, starring you, you, you.
At Turn Your Head, we fill the space between two opposing profiles of your face. By spinning that space into a three dimensional “visage” that follows the outlined silhouettes of your two profiles, we create the “Pirolette”.
Place the “Pirolette” to your face and it will match your profile. Locate it near a wall and the shadow of the “Pirolette” will be your silhouette.
Your profile captured forever in an object of art. An optical illusion of shadow and light, each one unique because it’s you!

I think its about time that I introduced to you to two of my favorite Icelandic photographers. Though their styles are very different as well as their subjects they both have passion for black & white photography. And there’s something about their pictures that is very dramatic and human at the same time.

Ragnar Axelsson, better known as RAX, has been working as a photographer for Iceland’s biggest news paper Morgunblaðið since 1976. He has had his pictures published in magazines like LIFE, National Geographic, Le Figaro, Stern and TIME. He has won several awards and held exhibitions well threw the world. His last book Faces of the north was published in 2004 and is truly one of my favorite books. In the book are pictures taken over 15 years in places like Siberia, Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland.

Nökkvi ElÃasson is an amateur photographer that is mostly known for his amazing pictures of deserted farms. Some of his work has been published in local news papers in Iceland and he’s first big exhibition was held in ReykjavÃk Museum of Photography in 2001 with Brian Sweeney. His book Abandoned Farms is absolutely amazing and shows many of the Icelandic farms that are deserted in the country side.
