Aussie Gold

November 29th, 2007 . by nathan

Today we are gonna look at a classic band…. that had one very famous song…… I Touch My Self…. The Divinyls…. They had quite a few other good songs…

Such as Science Fiction

Chrissie Ampheltte was her name…. she was famous for wearing the school girls outfit….. and she was a pretty sultry chick….. I reckon shes pretty hot….

Boys In Town

They were big in the 80s and early 90s….. one of the later songs is my fave….. This version is pretty dodgey quality…. u might have to turn it up…..

Im Jealous

What do u think???

mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister

November 26th, 2007 . by Jilly

mewith13.jpg

mewithoutYou’s
third album ‘Brother, Sister‘ came out about a year ago. It took a while for me to warm up to this album, but now I think its really clever. mewithoutYou is an Indie Rock band with Christian roots. They have a very unique sound - spoken word vocals with hardcore drums, bass and guitar.

I was pretty surprised when Jason pointed out to me that Jeremy Enigk’s voice was on one of their songs. But it makes sense. Enigk actually lended his vocals to 2 songs on their album - “O Porcupine” and “The Dryness and the Rain”.

In an interview with lead singer Aaron Weiss, he commented on why they have 3 different songs about spiders…

Back to the album here, the songs “Yellow Spider”, “Orange Spider”, and “Brownish Spider”, what are they about and why was the decision made to split them up and place them in that way?

It was written as one song based on seeing a brown spider and it was on a brown leaf. I just thought of the way that animals get by and the food is provided for them. Then the leaves fall off of the trees and then they come back the next year, and how everything works real well. So I write all the lyrics keeping that in mind - it was all one song - but then our friend, whose name is Mike Almquist, if you look in the credits he has an album credit that’s like, “spider song sequencing by Mike Almquist.” He was like, “you know, that would work well if you split it up into three songs,” and it really made sense to all of us right away. Yeah, then we could put different instruments on each one and kind of have it be the same theme but a little bit different, and have it tie the whole record together in a way.

I really like this album, its definitely one of the best of 2006. If you want to hear somethings that’s interesting lyrically, honest, beautiful, and unlike most stuff that you’ve already heard - then take a listen.

Aussie Gold

November 21st, 2007 . by nathan

Hi guys…. I get the feeling I’m the first Aussie to post on the blog… SO I’m introducing a little segment called AUSSIE GOLD

I was amazed… (well not really) at how little Australian music you guys knew of (besides AC/DC)… So I will be posting some Aussie classics….. They are pretty hard to find… .and my first choice is Cold Chisel………..

Saturday Night…. An absolute classic…. a song that every aussie knows… and a pretty decent one (rare?)…

Cold Chisel - Saturday Night (1984)

Jimmy Barnes is the singer…. The one that screams.. and bursts blood vessils in his head…… Ian Moss is the other singer that sounds a little like a girl… I reckon he sounds pretty good….. He is also the lead guitarist….

Cold Chisel - Cheap Wine (1980)

Ahhhhhh nice….
