Morrissey Turns Down $75 Million for Smiths Reunion
August 23rd, 2007 . by Jilly
I just read this on Pitchfork…
Turns out Moz was approached with an offer of $75 million smackers, payable upon completion of at least 50 worldwide shows provided Johnny Marr was in the band (no love for Andy and Mike?). Morrissey– who’d like it to be known once and for all that it’s not about the music but, rather, about the hurting– turned them down. Morrissey previously bragged about how Coachella offered the Smiths $5 million to reunite, but that, it appears, was small potatoes.
Morrissey wanted to make this very clear so that there could be no rumors that they might reunite at a festival, and get fans all worked up. I can’t help but wonder if Morrissey is holding out for more money.
Reunions are usually disappointing, but I still would pay money to see the Smiths back together one last time.
Funny you should post this picture today, it’s National Daffodil Day in Australia.
Thats heavy. I saw him on his last tour, it was an abortion
its never going to happen…is it?
I’m not sure how to feel about this but he should consider that his fans are loosing their youth and just like our abilty to go out on week nights fades so does our idea of heroes. It’s going to stop being such big deal for anyone, after all Africa has armies of children.
