This closeup photo of a rainbow was taken at Skógar in Iceland. It hardly seems real.
As if Iceland’s plethora of natural wonders, wasn’t appealing enough. Every year they host the Iceland Airwaves music festival. It always falls on the third weekend of October. This year its being held from October 17th through October 21st. This year the lineup includes: !!! (chk chk chk), Annuals, Bloc Party, Bonde do Role, Deerhoof, Of Montreal, GusGus, Leave, and múm (to name a few).
I went to Iceland four years ago. Its the most beautiful place I have ever been.
as reported on nme.com today, the band will release a double compliation album on november the 5th - called “hvarf-heim.

and ‘von’ - all four live favourites from over the years. the second disc is called “heim and will have acoustic studio versions of ’samskeyti’, ’starálfur’, ‘vaka’, ‘ágætis byrjun’, ‘Heysátan’ and ‘von’. more information as we get it.
They will also be releasing a video of a concert shot last summer in Iceland. Here’s a trailer for the film.
Last week we saw Rasputina and My Brightest Diamond. It was awesome seeing Rasputina again. Front woman Melora Creager is so damn funny and quick-witted. They played quite a few of their songs off of their new album, Oh Perilous World.
Melora introduced their new song “1816″ saying, “It used to be that when we wanted to sing about something scary, we sang about vampires. No if we want to be scary, we just sing about the weather.”
The Lady Jeff Buckley opened. She performed without her band. It was just her and an electric guitar. Her voice is amazing (she was trained as an opera singer). Her range gave me goosebumps a couple of times. I think the comparisons are deserving.

Friday night we saw Polyphonic Spree play at Canes in San Diego. They put on an energetic set with confetti shooting out over the audience. I was amazed by them, all of them. Tim DeLaughter is an engaging and energetic frontman. His enthusiasm is contagious. They played mostly from “Fragile Army“. They encored in the white robes and played mostly from “Together We’re Heavy“. They even performed their cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium” which was SO good.
YANP did a really interesting interview with Tim DeLaughterhere.
M: Writing about such uplifting stuff as you do, do people expect you to be Mr. Sunshine all day?
T: Yeah, they do. It’s a big misconception and that’s what sucks about it. They kind of got the wrong impression of our group from the beginning. And it was nothing that we put out, it was just people’s interpretation of our music: “they’re just a happy band. And not that happiness isn’t good, but it’s just a bit shallow to think that twenty four people are happy all the time. We’re all people with the same dynamics that everyone has in their emotional pattern.
This is a video of a group of inmates from the Philippines doing the Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance. This is wrong in about 2,000 different ways. I like it!!!
