Thisisthelast…Lily Allen Review
April 2nd, 2007 . by Jilly
On Friday night my sister and I saw Lily Allen at the House of Blues in San Diego. I was really excited to see her play. Look at these Lily Allen wannabe’s…
Lily Allen opened her set with LDN, and the crowd went crazy and everyone started dancing. I knew I would get to hear every song of hers that I liked, because she only has one album. I think she might be getting bored of her songs, so she threw in a couple of covers (Blondie - Heart of Glass, Kooks - Naive, Keane - Everybody’s Changing). She was so funny, she could be a stand-up comedian. People say she’s fat, but she’s not. She’s totally normal sized. She introduced “Friend of Mine” by telling this story of how when she was in school there was this girl that pretended to be her friend, but then behind her back was talking all this smack about her. And then she giggled and said,”Now I’m a famous singer and she’s addicted to crack.” Then she started the song. My face hurt from laughing. She started off the concert by saying,”I’m so drunk”. Then she proceeded to continue doing shots of Jagermeister throughout the night. She must not have been that drunk, because she remembered all the words to all the songs and her voice sounded great.
The opening act was a group call The Bird and the Bee. They are a jazz influenced electro pop duo. The lead singer, Inara George, has the sugary sweet vocals of Nina Cardigan or Emily Haines of Metric. Greg Kurstin is the keyboardist and is a producer, he’s worked with Beck and the Flaming Lips. I guess the good singing voice runs in the family, Inara is the daughter of Little Feat’s Lowell George. I wouldn’t recommend this band to my husband since he likes most of the music I like but where he likes the heavier music, I like the softer. This is definitely chill music. I bought the album at the concert and have been listening to it all weekend.
Here’s their video for Again and Again…
The concert was so fun!! She is such an entertainer. I would love to see her again.
Good times.
