I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for Phil Collins. It reminds me of being little and hanging out at my grammy’s house. She’d always be playing his records (it was all about the Phil Collins and the Richard Marx). And then we would eat macaroni noodles with butter and sugar (and when she didn’t have sugar, she’d use Sweet ‘N’ Low).
Here’s an amazing group of young men on the subway beatboxing to Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight”. They do an incredible job. I like how the old white ladies are getting down. If my grammy was still alive, she would’ve been getting down too.
I’m not afraid of heights, but even this sounds a little scary to me…
Grand Canyon West, a destination owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe at the Grand Canyon’s western rim, announces March 28, 2007 as the official public opening date of The Skywalk. The Skywalk will be the first-ever cantilever shaped glass walkway to suspend more than 4,000 feet above the canyon’s floor and extend 70 feet from the canyon’s rim.
Here’s a picture of what they envision it to look like. Its not a bridge that goes completely across the canyon, its like a ledge that juts out…
Last year I experienced the indie craft goodness that is the Felt Club. Last year they were holding it on a monthly basis. A good amount of people showed up and supported their December super-sized Felt Club, so they’ve decided to do this just twice a year. The next two Felt Clubs will be July 15 and November 18.
They’re also trying to raise some money, since they got dinged the last time for having flyers up where they shouldn’t be. So they’re putting up an array of craft items donated by various Felt Club members on eBay here, here, and here.

I play a little bit of video games. Ok, I’m a girl so I like my Tetris and my original Super Mario Bros. I’ve never played the Sims before, and I didn’t know that the people in that video game speak their own language (Simlish). Lily Allen has joined the ranks of Depeche Mode, and the Pussycat Dolls who have all recorded songs entirely in Simlish. I think its cute. I’m really looking forward to seeing her live.
The Shins were on Letterman last month, and I guess its been circulating on the internet. But this is the first time I’ve seen it. Anita of Viva Voce joined them on stage. Here’s the video…
Who gave Paul Schafer a job?
Here’s a video I just stumbled across for Viva Voce’s song “Alive with Pleasure”. The video is kind of dream-like, they’re trying to write a story about a man that has lost his socks. Its awkward and adorable. I have a crush on this band.
Pitchfork got first crack at interviewing Bjork about her upcoming album, Volta. To be fair though, one of Pitchfork’s writers was already friends with Matthew Barney, so he already had an in.
Here is the first of a series of Pitchfork interviews with Bjork.
Pitchfork: Marching–both the rhythm of feet and the concept of marching itself–seems to play a big part in this record. What’s the significance of marching?
Björk: I just wanted to get rhythmic again. Medulla was my way of pulling out of that, refusing to be categorized as ‘Oh what rhythm is she going to do next?’ Just feeling the pressure of all these young drum programmers or producers or whatever you call them contacting me, like, who was going to be the flavor of the month. It had become this kind of fashion statement, it just wasn’t right.
I mean, I do love one-upmanship sometimes, like when you see kids breakdancing and who can do the best tricks. It’s common, it’s in our nature as animals, like the birds of paradise who’ve got the best feathers and that sort of stuff. But it’s fun when it’s impulsive and it’s about fun. When it becomes clever, when it becomes more of a left-brain, who can mathematically out-do the other, it’s not so fun anymore. And maybe I just sort of pulled out and did a whole vocal album.
The Shins announced today that they have added a few more dates to their tour. I found confirmation on Viva Voce’s My Space and their official site that they were gonna be opening for them.
I cannot get enough of Viva Voce lately. If you haven’t heard Viva Voce here is a video for their song “Lucky Ones”…
Here are the added dates…

04-12 San Diego, CA - SOMA
04-14 Los Angeles, CA - Gibson Amphitheatre (KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic)
04-16 San Francisco, CA - The Warfield
04-17 San Francisco, CA - The Warfield
Jarvis Cocker’ssolo album came out a few months ago in the U.K. and has not been released yet in the U.S. and from what I’ve heard of it, it sounds pretty good.
Here’s the video for “Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time”, Jarvis is a cab driver giving advice…
Jarvis has still got it.
Oh yeah, and here’s the video of Jarvis and Beth Ditto (Gossips) duet at the NME awards.
