This Is The Last Movie Review - “Brick”

Jason and I watched Brick this weekend. Brick is a detective story that takes place in the back drop of a highschool. When Brendan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) finds his ex-girlfriend (Emilie de Ravin) dead, he knows that he has to find out why. The day before he gets a phone call from her. He can tell she’s in trouble, and she’s reaching out to him. But the things she says on the phone are cryptic (pin, brick, frisco). Brendan decides to push his way into the socialite druggie circle at his school until he finds out the truth about her death.

The movie is in the film noir style, even though it takes place in present day with highschool kids. The film was originally inspired by the stories of Dashiell Hammett, known for his hard-boiled detective novels (Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man). They definitely put a fresh spin on the old film noir style. They really pulled it off masterfully. And this movie was filmed in San Clemente.

I really liked this movie, it’s definitely the best thing I’ve seen in a long time.
