We’re going to the land down under for our friend (and co-author of Thisisthelast) Quinton’s wedding. I’m SO excited. I’ll post pictures when I get back!!!

My weekend was really busy, but busy in a good way. On Friday night, Jorge (co-author of Thisisthelast) had a brit-pop party at his house. We danced to the best 90’s britpop dance mix. I danced my legs down to my knees. Jorge has a knack for throwing good parties.
Saturday morning we went thrift shopping. Jorge showed me this little boutique in Oceanside called Selvage. Its really cute. They have lots of cute vintage clothing, purses, shoes, jewelry, housestuff, gifts and even some new stuff too. I had heard about this store from my sister and a couple of friends. If you haven’t been there yet, imagine it like Dick, Jane, and Spike’s only WAY better.
I was surprised to see my old friend from highschool in the store. It ends up that she owns the Selvage Boutique. I haven’t seen her in almost 10 years. She always did have a good eye for shopping and finding vintage things. She told me she plans on having art shows and DIY craft nights there. I’ll be posting about their events as they come up.
Here’s a few pix from inside their store…

The young lady who played Olive in Little Miss Sunshine was nominated for Best Supporting Actress today. She’s only ten years old. The movie is also nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year. And Alan Arkin, who played the sweet druggie grandpa is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
I don’t think it really matters what the “Academy” thinks. But its sweet that a movie like this gets some recognition.

I was violently happy to hear that Bjork has a new album in the works. The album will be released in the spring and then she will tour the U.S. She’ll be kicking off her tour by headlining Coachella.
From her website…
The only thing I have heard prior of the making of this new record was a collaboration with Timbaland was being penned in. They met for a couple of sessions and laid down some beats for two tracks, “then I took these tracks and worked on them further”, says Björk. This is true, as I hear that she has taken them to a another level.
We speak about the many collaborators on this record and the list is very interesting as Antony Hegerty duets on two tracks. Drummer Chris Corsano jumps into at least the 2 songs. New sounds and instrumentation are provided by Toumani Diabate who plays the Kora and Konono nr.1 with electric thumb pianos. More percussive delights come from Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt Great artists being drafted into the fold!
This list is very impressive and intriguing and from this first batch of song create a very unique sound and emotion. Nothing sounds really familiar about this experience, apart from the name of Mark Bell, him I know. And Sjón, turns to form to deliver one lyric, his 5th lyric since they started work together. This record is a Björk production par excellence. No stone left unturned to seek out the perfect pitch.
And more work is being done in the next few weeks on the new record. It has not got a name. The record is scheduled for late spring release. Some of us have wished to see Björk live in concert.
Well. Björk will be going on the road and giving us long wanted concert recitals. Yes gigging again. I get to see who is the band, I’ll be damned, I forgot. It is being finalised right now
And this time its official…

We were having some server issues yesterday. But everything should be back to normal today.

Already Mr. Destiny has announced the dates for Iceland Airwaves 2007 festival! Its 17.-21 october 2007. So you have 9 months to get ready for a great festival adventure in the land of ice. They promise to start announcing the first names very soon.
I know there are some rubbish festivals out there but for true music lovers this one is a treat! Last year i couldn’t make it do my good island for the festival but this year i’m not doing that mistake again. oh no!
I just read on Pitchfork that The Decemberists have announced their spring U.S. tour. My Brightest Diamond will be supporting them for the majority of the shows. The Decemberists DVD The Decemberists: A Practical Handbook will be released on Kill Rock Stars on March 20. They’re a really fun live show. It doesn’t look like they’ll be coming to my town, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will be adding some more shows.

If you haven’t heard My Brightest Diamond yet, here’s her song “Something of an End”.

I will admit that it wasn’t until 2 weeks ago that I heard Beirut and totally became in awe of Zach Condon. I’m not surprised to hear that they’ve been busy making new songs. “Elephant Gun” is the new single off of Beirut’s second release The Lon Gisland EP. This EP is being released on January 30th.
Brooklyn Vegan has a really interesting interview with them from back in June.

When I was about 8 years old my grandmother won a contest on the radio. She won because she was Rock 105’s oldest listener, being 78 years old. Her prize was a limousine picked her up and took her and a guest to the David Bowie concert. This was about the same year that I watched Labrynth and it freaked me out.
Anyways, David Bowie is 60 years old today. I just think its so cool that my grammy actually went to the concert and rocked out to David Bowie. The man does not seem to age.
Since he is 60 today, the BBC has listed 60 things about him.
My all time favorite David Bowie quote,”I’ve always been a closet heterosexual.”
