Chan Marshall Interview

October 13th, 2006 . by Jilly

From Pitchfork

Chan Marshall visited AOL’s Interface studio. She performed a few songs and gave a really funny interview. The guy that’s interviewing her is so lame. This is the funniest I’ve ever heard Chan Marshall be. She’s sober, she’s got it together and she’s got her hip hop slang down.

Check it out here.

Midlake - Australian Tour

Earlier this week I posted the video for Midlake’s “We Gathered in Spring”. They sound like a mix of Radiohead (The Bends era) meets Grandaddy. I just read that they were supposed to be touring with Keane, but that got cancelled. So now they’re heading down to Australia for a tour.

Here are the dates…

  • Wednesday December 6 Hotel Great Northern, Byron Bay
  • Thursday December 7 The Zoo, Brisbane
  • Friday December 8 The Gaelic Theatre, Sydney

Midlake is putting up a series of music videos, with a new one each week. Check that out here. You can also find a plethora of their songs and videos here and here.

New Fiona Apple - Sally’s Song

From Prefix Mag

Tim Burton is putting out a 3D version of A Nightmare Before Christmas soon, and to go along with that, the studio gathered up a group of high profile artists (don’t ask) to cover songs from Danny Elfman’s goth-silly soundtrack. This here’s “Sally’s Song, and it proves what we knew already from “Extraordinary Machine: Fiona would be great singing show tunes on Broadway. Not that the song isn’t dark and gloomy, or that a certain musical adventurousness doesn’t reflect in the gentle chimes and marching drums that fight off the weeping strings. But really, this is a big stage production (I see fire and people dancing on ropes!) with Fiona’s voice holding it all together. And really, I can’t think of anything that could topple something that powerful.

This song is awesome and dark and pretty.

You Got to Know Your Chicken

I used to love Cibo Matto. I remeber when I was in highschool, driving down to see the Festival of Animation and everyone in the car was singing “Extra sugar, extra salt, extra oil and MSG.” What’ve those girls been up to? Yuko Honda helped produce Sean Lennon’s album. They were married for awhile and then divorced. Miho Hatori has lended her vocals to the Gorillaz and on October 24 will be releasing a solo album entitled Ecdysis.

Here’s the video for her new song “Barracuda”.

You can check out a couple of her new tracks here.

This video is super happy (like Polyphonic Spree happy). If you’ve had a bad day, this will put a smile on your face. I think Maureen and Devon might’ve been extras in this video.

Family Wins Disney World to Themselves

October 6th, 2006 . by Jilly

From Boing Boing..

A family won a chance to have Disney World’s Magic Kingdom all to themselves, as part of Disney’s “Year of a Million Dreams” promo. Ohio’s Spangler family showed up in the Magic Kingdom and found it eerily deserted, but once they’d made their way halfway up Main Street, 1,500 costumed castmembers came streaming out of hiding to do a song-and-dance number welcoming them to the park. Then they got to go on any ride they wanted, with no lines at all.

How rad would that be?

I like this song, it sorta reminds me of Elbow.

Chuck Palahniuk is Now Accepting Letters

October 4th, 2006 . by Jilly

For the month of October Chuck Palahniuk will be accepting fanmail and responding to it. Of course you’ve got to follow the rules. Your letter has to be postmarked in the month of October. But it sounds like he’ll respond with letters to some and care packages to others. So if you have a burning question that only Chuck can answer, send it off now.

The day has finally come! Chuck is allowing you all the month of October to write him letters via his agent at Donadio & Olsen. It’s been about two years since the last fanmail window was opened and Chuck has been very busy inbetween. So many of you probably thought this day would never come again. But Chuck has set aside much of the Fall and Winter to answer every piece of mail sent to him. And I can tell you that he’s already cooking up some new surprises for the reply mail he sends back to each of you.
