Sykurmolarnir reuniting!

September 18th, 2006 . by Sandra

Believe it or not but Sykurmolarnir (The Sugarcubes) are reuniting and doing a concert in Laugardalshöll 17.november! It will be 20 years in 21.november since their single with the song Ammæli was released first in Iceland.

Its been a long time since all of the members of Sykurmolarnir did a concert together. I think the last concert was in 1992 so this is going to be one of the big concerts of the year here in Iceland. No doubt about that!

More info on the event will be found later here.

Paris, je t’aime!

Once again its time for The Iceland Film Festival in Reykjavík. Finally we get something worth seeing in cinema. I haven’t been to the movies for at least 4 months and i think that is actually a record for me. There just hasn’t been anything to tempt me to go the movies. But now i’m a happy little elf!

I went to see Paris, je t’aime which is a film done by 20 different directors: Olivier Assayas, Frédéric Auburtin, Emmanuel Benbihy, Gurinder Chadha, Sylvain Chomet, Ethan Coen & Joel Coen, Isabel Coixet, Wes Craven, Alfonso Cuarón, Gérard Depardieu, Christopher Doyle, Richard LaGravenese, Vincenzo Natali, Alexander Payne, Bruon Podalydés, Walter Salles, Oliver Schmitz, Nobuhiro Suwa, Daniela Thomas, Tom Tykwer and Gus Van Sant.

Each director gets 5 min to tell his story in his own way which leads you to see the diversity in 18 different district of Paris. I thought the film was absolutely amazing! Loved it even more then i love Paris… well no not really but still i really liked it. Each short story just took my breath away… i wasn’t bored for one second not even a split of second. To me it was simply a masterpiece!

“After six studio albums, three live albums and countless gigs, Arab Strap are to split up. A book-end compilation album and a celebratory farewell tour will mark the end of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton’s ten year relationship. The Last Romance, released in 2005, will remain their final studio offering.”

They’ll be doing a final tour, but they’re only going to England and Scotland.

Rocking the Sign

September 7th, 2006 . by Jilly

I worked in Oceanside down by the beach, for two years. There was never a shortage of interesting characters. Most days were mundane and a tad dull. But one thing that would make me smile every single day was seeing Jeff the sign-twirler (?) heavy metal guy, holding his sign like a guitar, banging his head, and screaming the words to his music. He is an Oceanside treasure. He’s a hard worker - holding signs for Port of Subs, Little Caesars, the surf shop, the gas station, and works the counter of Little Caesar’s too. He’s enthusiastic - always singing/screaming the words to his songs. He’s got chutzpah.

The Reader
printed a really nice interview with Jeff this week. You can check it out here.

The last thing we did at my work before we moved from that location was have a garage sale. We wanted to draw attention to our garage sale, so we tracked down Jeff (who was at the Church’s Chicken dying his hair black). We made a sign in the shape of a guitar advertising our garage sale and hired Jeff to be our sign twirler.

There’s not very many things I miss about Oceanside. Yeah, having lunch at the Hill Street Coffee House was nice, and picking up food and eating down at the beach was pretty sweet. But the thing that I miss the most is the constancy of seeing Jeff on the street corner, holding his sign like a guitar, banging his head, and screaming his heart out.

Happy Birthday to Us!!!!

September 6th, 2006 . by Jilly

It was one year ago today, that we made our very first post. And 400 posts later, here we are. This has been a very nice way to keep in touch with our friends and has been a fun diversion for me when I didn’t feel like doing real work. This was never meant to be taken serious, its always been fun silliness to me and I hope to the other authors too.

All-time favorite post is Quinton’s post about Against Me. Who knew that Against Me had such passionate fans?

All-time favorite poster (and apparently biggest hipster of the authors) - Jorge.

Thanks for all the posts and comments guys.
