Bluebeard

October 11th, 2005 . by Jorge

His Majesty Robin Guthrie will be kicking off a tour consisting of very rare once in a lifetime solo performances. The tour begins on Monday, October 17th at The Mezzanine in San Francisco. This show promises to deliver as Robin equipped with guitar, laptop and visual projections will perform songs written exclusively for this night. Along with him will be San Francisco’s very own Halou accompanied by Zoë Keating (of Rasputina). This will be the bands only performance in 2005.

After 15 years with shoegazer royalty, The Cocteau Twins, Robin continues building his legacy with both solo work and his band Violet Indiana. To give you some insight to this man’s genius in 2004 Violet Indiana was directly involved with producing and scoring the soundtrack for the Gregg Araki film Mysterious Skin. Not to mention that he was the song writing force behind the magnificent and untouchable Cocteau Twins. If you aren’t fortunate enough to find yourself in the bay area don’t worry he will also be performing In Los Angeles and London.

To find any further information on Violet Indiana visit Bella Union, incindentally he is one of the record labels founding members.

Cindy: Yes I want to go to the LA show. Want to come?

Amelie: Are you trying to tell me that Robin has a love child somwhere in the Indiana back country. Does your real name happen to be Violet? What does this all mean? Dont leave me in the dark, this is juicy.

Im not sure if she’ll be there because she’s actually going to be playinig with Halou. I dont know if they’ll be supporting him in LA but how awesome would that be.

oh P.S. jorge: all i can say is that there’s good reason Robin has named his main creative outlet after my home state. theories abound, but danyelle and i attribute it to our steady diet of corn and basketball.

Wait a minute. Basketball is something you can intake? All these years I’ve been avoiding what I assumed was a sport and the whole time I could have just eaten it. Damn it! Does it taste anything like corn? Cause I’m on that.

By the way Amelie I think you mispelled beautiful it only has 6 o’s.

music to do yoga to. not a patch on cocteau twins…i heard he was off his face on drugs all the time and elizabeth and simon did most of the last few records anyway.

I’m not sure how true that is, because Robin and Simon went on to form bella union together. I don’t think relations between them would be well enough to start a label together if this were true. Besides as far as drugs are concerned, Robin has openly sighted amphetamines as a musical influence from the get go. I dont know what would have change in later years.

When it comes to Elizabeth making the records, not sure what to think. She didnt start contributing to the writing of the music until the last albums. I dont know how well she could have taken on the responsibilty of replacing Guthire.

I do agree on the fact that his music doesnt hold a candle to The Cocteau Twins but then again not much does. Nonetheless I still enjoy his music quite a bit.
